What is DHCP Addr. Assignment Required feature in WLC?

--> IF DHCP Addr. Assignment Required is enabled, wireless users must receive an IP ADDRESS from DHCP Server.

--> This feature only allows traffic from users who have obtained their IP address via DHCP.

--> Wireless Users configured with static IP address are not allowed to access the network.

--> From a security standpoint, this feature provides a more strict control of IP addresses.

--> The DHCP Required option forces the wireless user to send a DHCP address request/renew messages every time they associate to the WLAN before they are allowed to send or receive other traffic to the network.

--> This feature may have some problems in some client implementations which do not do a DHCP renew until the lease time expires.

--> Enabling this feature have also increased the total time required for roaming before traffic is allowed to pass again.

--> Also ARP errors have been known to show up in the logs.

--> Sometimes you may see 0.0.0.0 as client address in the Wireless LAN Controller because of this feature.

--> Cisco recommends that it is not best practice to enable DHCP ADDR. ASSIGNMENT feature in WLAN.
