What is Nipper?

--> Nipper is the free and open source software used to perform auditing of security configurations of many different device types such as routers, firewalls, and switches of a network infrastructure.

--> Nipper stands for Network Infrastructure  Configuration Parser.

--> Nipper takes any network infrastructure device configuration such as router or firewall then processes the file and provides security-related issues with detailed recommendations.

--> Nipper was previous known as CiscoParse.



--> Nipper Supports many network infrastructure devices such as,

i) Cisco switches (IOS)

ii) Cisco routers (IOS)

iii) Cisco firewalls (PIX, ASA, FWSM)

iv) Cisco Catalyst switches (NMP, CatOS, IOS)

v) Cisco Content Service Switches (CSS)

vi) Juniper NetScreen Firewalls (ScreenOS)

--> Nipper takes the input in text format and provides the report in the html file.

--> Nipper works on both Windows and Linux Operating systems.

--> Nipper provides following security audit information such as,

i) A software version that has vulnerabilities and the reference numbers for those vulnerabilities

ii) Recommendations to disable services that might cause others to be able to access the network infrastructure device.

iii) Commands that you need to configure to secure the network infrastructure device.
